La Provence is a fine farm to table concept restaurant. The overall style is French, accented with great Louisiana ingredients.
For
example our first appetizer featured fried oysters with a mustard sauce
that was delicious. This oyster dish also included some of the finest
artichokes I have tasted. The next course was a pork belly appetizer
that included figs. These figs were at a memorable level and they came from the restaurant garden. The fig flavor
complemented the pork component very well.
For entrees, we chose
lemon fish and sheep head. Both of these feature great fishes from
Louisiana. My friend was very happy with the sheep head.
The
lemon fish was an elite dish. It was with, warm crawfish salad,
cauliflower, picholine olives, Covey Rise tomatoes. I would like to
further emphasize the quality of the produce here. The proteins were
excellent. But the produce was on an even higher level.
Desserts
were great too. We had the peanut chocolate dessert. It was much more
elevated than my description. I believe it was a mousse, it had peanut
butter ice cream on the side. We also tried a trio of ice creams that
were great.
The service was phenomenal our server staggered the courses very well, even though we were some of the last guests.
La Provence is a good alternative to downtown New Orleans, a much easier drive and less traffic on the way.
